Untamed nature awaits you on this tour along the Tauern Cycle Path. The roaring Krimml waterfalls, Austria's highest mountain, narrow gorges, as well as the historic cities of Salzburg, Obernberg and Passau with their picturesque historic town centres are on your route. You can look forward to easy cycling on mostly well-developed paths along the rivers Salzach, Saalach and Inn, and taking your time to enjoy local delicacies.
Day 1 Arrival in Krimml
You’ll start your holiday in the Pinzgau region, in Krimml with its famous waterfalls.
Day 2 Krimml - Kaprun/Zell am See, approx. 60 km/37 mi
You’ll cycle along the Salzach through the Hohe Tauern National Park with a beautiful view of the mountains Großvenediger and the Großglockner. This is where the distinctively spotted Pinzgau cattle are at home.
Day 3 Kaprun/Zell am See - Lofer, approx. 50 km/31 mi
After a refreshing swim in Lake Zell, you’ll cycle in the Saalach valley. Why not take a detour to the narrow-walled Seisenberg Gorge?
Day 4 Lofer - Salzburg, approx. 50 km/31 mi
You’ll cycle through the Berchtesgadener Land biosphere reserve towards the Mozart city of Salzburg. Tip: the original Mozartkugeln (a small, round sugar confection made of pistachio marzipan and nougat) are from Cafe Fürst.
Day 5 Salzburg - Burghausen, approx. 60 km/37 mi
Riparian forests characterise the landscape along the Inn, which you’ll follow to medieval Burghausen with its impressive castle complex.
Day 6 Burghausen - Obernberg am Inn, approx. 50 km/31 mi
Braunau, known as Hitler's birthplace, presents itself as a pretty Gothic town, while Obernberg is characterised by the baroque Inn-Salzach style.
Day 7 Obernberg am Inn - Passau, approx. 40 km/25 mi
Reichersberg Abbey, Schärding and Neuburg are today’s highlights before you reach the enchanting 3-river city of Passau.
